Tamil Weekly Editor Arrested For "Defarmatory" Article On Governor

[ad_1]

Chennai:

Journalist Nakkheeran Gopal, the editor of popular Tamil weekly 'Nakkheeran', was arrested this morning at Chennai airport on charges of defamation after a complaint was filed by Raj Bhavan over an article.

Mr Gopal was arrested at the airport while he was on his way to Pune.

The article was on Nirmala Devi, a professor of a private Tamil Nadu college who was arrested in the infamous "sex-for-marks" scam. Nirmala Devi allegedly prodded girls to extend sexual favours to university officials in return for marks.

In his article, Mr Gopal claimed that Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit was not probed in the case.

Chennai police officials said the article was offensive and defamatory.
