PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) - A Plainfield man is recovering after being bitten by a rabid raccoon on Tuesday.
According to officials, around 4:00 p.m., animal control responded to a residence on Lake Street after receiving a report of a raccoon bite.
Officials say the victim stated that a raccoon ran out from behind a vehicle and bit his leg.
The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The raccoon was later located and multiple tests confirmed it had rabies.
The victim is receiving post-exposure immunizations for rabies.
Officials are reminding residents to avoid contact with stray animals and wildlife and to keep all household animals up to date on their rabies vaccinations.
