NEW DELHI: Equity markets on Tuesday saw benchmark indices making a sharp U-turn in late trading as Sensex and Nifty finished with healthy gains after staying in the red for the majority of the day.
30-share BSE Sensex closed at 37,606.58, up 112.18 points while the broader 50-share NSE Nifty gained 36.95 points to close at 11,356.50.
The market breadth was positive, about 1458 shares have advanced, 1163 shares declined, and 165 shares are unchanged.
Among sectors, Nifty IT gained more than a per cent while FMCG and pharma rose more than half a per cent each. The Nifty PSU Bank sub-index, on the other hand lost above 1 per cent.
