NEW DELHI: Benchmark equity index BSE Sensex hit yet another all-time high of 36,928.06 at the opening bell, but could not manage to hold on to the gains and was trading flat early on.
At 10.02 am, the index was up 34.68 points at 36,859.78. The broader 50-share NSE Nifty was trading at previous closing levels.
Among sectors, Nifty Metal sub-index was up 1.7 per cent but major sub-indices like IT, pharma and auto were under pressure. Sentiments are cautious ahead of July series F&O expiry scheduled tomorrow amid mixed quarterly earnings, brokers said.
Asian stocks were higher on Wednesday, supported by strong Wall Street earnings and hopes China’s government spending would boost growth but trade tensions remain in focus ahead of a meeting between the US and European Commission presidents.
